Seven Rules for Sustainable Communities: Design Strategies for the Post Carbon World

You are cordially invited to a book launch event to celebrate the release of "Seven Rules for Sustainable Communities: Design Strategies for a Post-Carbon World", by UBC Professor Patrick M. Condon. It is notable for its comparisons between Canadian cities and their American counterparts, comparing and contrasting the subtle and not so subtle dierences in history and economics that distinguish them. It is the rst major book published in North America that maps the connection between city form and their eects on the planet - particularly the damage done by the release of greenhouse gas. It is also the rst book to boil down these seemingly complex relationships into seven simple rules for community design.

Many in the UBC community have participated in formulating and applying these seven rules. Thus we hope that this celebration can be shared, and that this book adequately represents this shared eort.
